President Viktor Yuschenko has moved forward with an initiative to liquidate all monuments of totalitarianism and the communist regime in Ukraine.
Yuschenko announced this at a ceremony commemorating victims of totalitarianism at Bykovnianski Mohyly national historical and memorial reserve, as Ukrainian News reports.
"I have instructed to draft a law aiming at the realization of the process of liquidation of symbols of totalitarianism and the communist regime in Ukraine. I will submit it to the Verkhovna Rada as an urgent draft law," he said.
Yuschenko further said he would insist on endorsement of draft laws, which have been submitted to the Verkhovna Rada, on the status of fighters for independence of Ukraine in the 1920-1960's and introduction of responsibility for denial of Holodomor and Holocaust.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, President Viktor Yuschenko believes the current political problems in Ukraine are the consequences of the totalitarian regime in the country.
