Today, on May 16, 2008, Ukraine has become the full-fledged 152th member of the World trade organization: Protocol on Ukraine’s joining Marrakech Treaty on World trade organization founding ratified by the Verkhovna Rada on April 10, 2008.
According to expert estimations, Ukraine’s joining WTO is to lead to additional increase of the population wealth by 3% and GDP growth dynamics up to 2%, as Ministry of Economy reports.
Since Ukraine’s entering the organization the country is to obtain the procedure of the maximum assistance in the trade area of all the state-parties to WTO, which is the simultaneous improvement of trade conditions with 151 countries in the world, which cover 95% of the world trade.
More over, there will be decrease of tariff and non-tariff limitations on exporting Ukraine’s goods to trade markets of WTO state-parties, opportunity to protect interests of Ukrainian producers according to the procedure of WTO trade arguments settlement, opportunity to received an official status of the negotiation process in creating free trade area with EU, access to cheaper utility, equipment and raw material.
Ukraine’s membership is expected to be the most useful for metallurgic and chemical branch of economy.
The biggest export increase is forecast in agriculture, chemical industry and metallurgy.
The Ministry of Economy notes that competition pointing at the home market and necessity to introduce new regulations on quality of goods are among the ‘minuses’ of the membership.
After entering WTO Ukraine is expected to change import levies rates to both food and industrial groups of goods.
Ukraine’s membership in WTO provides annual payment of dues. The volumes of the payment is defined on the basis of policy advice Budget, Finance and Management Committee of WTO. As soon as Ukraine has entered WTO not at the beginning of the year, the payment is to be calculated according to the number of actual months, which is about 350 thousand Switzerland francs.
