Ukraine has taken 76th place among 177 countries in 2007 according to Human Development Index. (In 2006 Ukraine took 77th place among 177 countries of the world.
Francis O'Donnell, the Resident Coordinator of the United Nations system in Ukraine, said about this at the press-conference in Kyyiv, while representing the National report of Ukraine in Human Development Index.
The majority of indexes, despite the definite progress, Ukraine has considerably fallen behind all the countries of the European Union, including neighboring states: Hungary (36th place), Poland (37th place), Slovakia (42 th place), Bulgaria (53 th place) and Romania (60th place), as well as Russia (67th place) and Belarus (64th place).
At the same time Ukraine has achieved the progress in the sphere of the population’s increase of income, as well as education and health care.
