On the night from Saturday to Sunday Ukrainian boxer Volodymyr Klichko defended his title of the World champion confronting the candidate from the United States Kelvin Brock in the super heavyweight category IBF. He defeated Brock with a technical knock-out in Madison Square Garden New York.
Rivals were examining one another in the first three rounds, however Klichko managed to hit more often and keep his rival at a distance.
In the beginning of the fourth round Klichko made two compact hits on his rival’s head. Brock tried to clinch, but that didn’t help him much. Several hits of the Ukrainian reached his aim in the fifth round, although Brock managed to keep on his feet.
Klichko got a serious injury of his left eyelid, but the bleeding was stopped.
Volodymyr Klichko went on fighting, and in the seventh round after another successful jab managed to break through the rival’s defense with a sharp right cross in his chin. Brock fell on the ring covering but managed to get up till the count ten, though he could barely stand on his feet. Referee Wane Kelly took the decision to stop the bout, fixing the winning of the Volodymyr Klichko.
Thus, Klichko’s count of the winnings on the professional level reached 47 fights. The fight with Brock became the 50th in the professional ring. He gained the 47th victory, which is the 42nd gained with a knock-out. The American boxer having won all of his 29 times, became undermost for the first time.
Before the fighting with Klichko 31 year-old Kelvin Brock has never been defeated in the professional ring. The confrontation with Klichko as though became the continuation of the series, first part of which was left after American Shannon Briggs who had defeated Byelorussian Serhiy Lyakhovych only two weeks before. After Briggs’ winning Americans was about to say of their supremacy in super heavyweights, but Klichko quickly cut down to size.
