After two months of training twenty-year-old sumo wrestler Olha Davydko have become the three times champion of Europe. She weighs about 130 kilograms and isn’t ashamed of it in the slightest. Just the other way round, Olha believes that weight and luck has helped her to become a champion so soon.
Olha Davydko, sumo wrestler, “I grew up at the seaside – suntanned and swam, I thought and dreamt of nothing. Everything was like in a fog. And there I sit at the railway station, not thinking about anything, tired, wishing to get home as soon as possible. And here he goes, the big daddy”.
Serhiy Korobko, President of Sumo Federation of Ukraine, “I saw her at the railway station, sitting on a bench with a young man. I glimpsed at her, and I thought that it was a nice piece of a pie”.
Olha participated all in all after two trainings in the first competition in Yalta, she says that the coach managed only to tell her the rules of the sport and taught how to tie mavasi – a belt in Japanese.
Accountant by education, Olya treats sumo as the point of life. She says that everything used to be customary, now everything has changed, her life is not so usual.
Serhiy Korobko, President of Sumo Federation of Ukraine, “She is not a standard girl. There are no 90-60-90 standards. She may have 120-90-120. The same proportions, but in a greater scale”.
Olya trains in together with a man – in this way it is better to improve strokes and impacts. Although Olya wrestles with the guy in half force.
