Seventeen draftees-Kharkovians are going to serve in a squadron of a separate President of Ukraine’s regiment. The regiment representative captain Denis Kushnir selected guys. The candidates are to have a secondary education, strictly defined height, regular features. They can’t have scares or tattoos on the body, adding to that.
Denis Kushnir, deputy commander guard of honor squadron, “We’ve got criterion – no shorter that 1 meter 82-83 cm (5.9 - 6 ft). No shorter. Maybe higher, but here we also have limits. We can’t take some basketball player. Generally, the criteria are following – no shorter that 1 meter 82 - 84 cm, nice exterior and.. We’ve got twins here. They usually lay wreaths with the President”.
The draftees will serve as the rest - the same basic training in a regular training unit – emphasizing on marching drill. In half a year the guys are going to stand in the line – they will take part in festivities: to meet international delegations, to lay flowers, to carry flags.
The draftees themselves know little about guard of honor squadron. The service is not promised to be easy – the inviting party insist, although they are elite forces. It looks very beautiful, which means twice as harder – the training is to be flawless.
Another criterion at the selection – not principal, but significant – a draftee is to have a complete family. If a soldier is noted while on duty, commander is to send grateful letter – both to mother and father’s work and home.
