Yesterday was the last day of registration the pretenders for Mayor and deputies of the City Council. People wishing to take part in elections-2006 had only few hours – the City Election Commission was working till the midnight. The last to register are mostly those who executed their documents with mistakes. The commission will check the forms and blanks till Saturday – only then it would be known about the final number of Mayor’s chair candidates.
It was a full house in the City Election Commission. The pretenders for Mayor and deputies chairs formed a queue. The rules of decorum don’t work here, nobody was giving place to ladies. Midnight is a deadline. Many of pretenders came here not for the first time and stay for registration the last because of mistakes in documents.
Konstantin Kharitonov, independent candidate: “I tried, I was gathering the signs personally. I tried to visit personally every voter. The only delay is caused by the wrong writing because the right writing takes some time”.
The members of the Election Commission say that they received callers more than in all previous week. They had the all hand job.
Boris Barabash, the member of the Election Commission: “I don’t think that all the commission members would stay till midnight. But some of us will stay certainly. Naturally, we will let women go primarily. Tomorrow they have celebration, the Saint Valentine’s Day. Though it’s not an official holiday but women are women. We must respect them”.
The members of the City Election Commission complain that they hardly would rest tomorrow. They must check all the documents and compose the final list till Saturday. At 8 p.m. there were 30 people in the list of Mayor’s post pretenders, 14 of them are official candidates. The representatives of 47 political parties and blocks expect to take the deputy chairs.
