Three hryvnyas per kilogram of potato - this is twice as much than last year. Salesmen explain the reason for growing prices with small crop and expensive gasoline. Regional authorities assure that farmers keep potato till winter to sell it later at higher prices.

The maximum wholesale price from “the producer” is 2.50 hryvnyas. This is the information from vice-governor Victor Zveryev. 50 kopecs more is added on the road from a village to the city. The factors enumerated by sellers in the market – small crop and expensive fuel, in Zveryev’s opinion affects the price growth in a minor way.
Victor Zveryev , vice chairman of the regional state administration, «Firstly, western regions haven’t brought potato to us yet, it has been raining, and they have just set about to dig it out, and here, people keep it till winter, when frosts come, to sell it at markets, local farmers keep potato hoping to sell it at higher prices in winter”.
By the end of September, potato may become cheaper by means of the potato brought here from other regions. In any case, Victor Zveryev is sure, that potato prices will be no higher than 2 hryvnyas per kilogram.
