Geoffrey Oryema’s concert in Kharkiv. Critics say that he is a real voodoo doctor – he braids an intricate weave, combining traditional ritual African culture and mould-breaking directions of European theatre and music.
Music experts consider Geoffrey Oryema to be outstanding representative of African musical culture. He keeps the traditions of African folklore, combining it with Western rock and worldbeat.
Oryema was born in Uganda (Eastern Africa), but in his youth, at quite dramatic circumstances he escaped to France, where his musical career began.
His first album “Exile” (1990) released at the most prestigious label Real World became a considerable event for the world of music. His album was produced by Brian Ino, while Peter Gabriel performed as back vocal.
Since that time and up to the present music experts consider Oryema one of the best concert performers of World music, reports the website of Kharkiv theatrical center.
