Event of the high society. The exhibition of the famous Russian artist Nikas Safronov was opened in Kharkiv. The epithet “fashionable” is always added to his name, the artist is known in jet-set with what is called promotion.
All of the beau-monde: from politics to people of art and simply famous persons were at the exhibition of Nikas. His real name is Nikolay Stepanovych Safronov.
Several minutes before the beginning the master of the exhibition goes round the gallery – to check whether all is well. Paintings for the exhibition were selected by Nikas Safronov himself.
Several words of gratitude to Kharkiv – he said it was the best place to start his exposition, it is the first capital of the country. Serhiy Poyarkov a colleague from Kyyiv promoted no less than Nikas supports the artist during the exhibition.
Serhiy Poyarkov, artist (Kyyiv), “Nikas is the example of how a good artist can become a stylish brand. An artist is not just a person able to paint. This is the person which is the reflection of his epoch, his time, and it is for sure the person, whom people both like and hate”.
As if to confirm these words, near the paintings are photos with celebrities form the “Me and a celebrity” series: Nikas and Banderas, Alen Delon, Putin and Bush. They often blame him for replacing the art with publicity. Not replacing, but completing – protests Safronov, especially when he promotes himself without anybody’s help.
Nikas Safronov, artist (Russia), “Show me who promoted me and I will give him a million dollars, show me who works instead of me and I will give him three million. I simply paint, I am popular, you see. I sell 85% of paintings abroad, and people buy works not because it is Nikas, but because they like them”.
Surrealism, mystics, motives of old masters from Safronov are often called exquisite. Sometimes even too much exquisite.
Oleksandr Bilder, master of cameo (Kharkiv), “Somewhat glamour in Moscow style. That is the graphical level is quite high, but there are many remarks from the point of view of art philosophy, everything is quite shallow. I guess there is no main part which distinguishes a high art from the craft”.
